This year, the World Series matchup with the Red Sox has been a real nail biter for Cardinal’s fans. As a way to deal with the stress of fielding errors and David Ortiz, we would like to offer this delicious signature cocktail. It is sure to be a winner. And the Cardinals need all the enthusiasm they can get from the best fans in baseball.
It’s called the CardinalCane – it’s our take on the Hurricane. And with the proper planning, the homemade syrup can be made ahead of time. That makes serving it tonight a cinch. (Also – a nonalcoholic version is equally tasty. Simply omit the rums and triple sec.)
CardinalCane (aka Hurricane)
Serves 5
- 1-1/2 cups pineapple juice
- 1 cup fresh-squeezed orange juice
- 1 cup pomegranate juice (filtered, not cloudy)
- 1/2 cup grenadine
- 1/2 cup simple syrup (see recipe below)
- 1/4 cup fresh-squeezed lemon juice
- 1/4 cup fresh-squeezed lime juice
- 1-1/2 cups light rum
- 1/4 cup triple sec
- 1/2 cup dark rum
- Slice orange (garnish)
- Slice lemon (garnish)
- Maraschino cherry (garnish)
In a large pitcher combine the pineapple juice, orange juice, pomegranate juice, grenadine, simple syrup, lemon juice and lime juice. Stir well to combine.
Add the light rum, triple sec and dark rum and stir well.
Serve in 16-ouce glasses* over lots of ice and garnish each glass with 1 orange slice, 1 lemon slice and 1 maraschino cherry.
*If you don’t have hurricane glasses, get creative and use something you have. Wine glasses or pint glasses work just as well.
Simple Syrup
- makes about 1 cup
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
Bring sugar and water to a boil in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring, until sugar dissolves. Let cool completely. Store in the refrigerator in a well-sealed bottle or jar.
Note: This concoction was originally posted in 2011, and it proved to be a winner.
