For a time, sheet vinyl with its trite, frilly patterns had become a product to be avoided in the interior design world. Design trends have changed though and sheet vinyl flooring styles have improved by leaps and bounds. It’s once again become a great alternative to higher-priced materials for both remodeling projects and new, luxury custom homes!
“The design industry and vinyl industry finally caught up with each other,” said Pat Cannon of Ambassador Floor Design, a vendor of DH Custom Homes.
With the use of natural materials, such as stone and wood, becoming so popular with homeowners, the vinyl industry went back to the drawing board to create sheet vinyl with beautiful ceramic tile, stone and wood style options. Technology has also caught up. The photographic resolution on vinyl flooring is so high quality, it’s hard to tell the difference. Plus, vinyl flooring still maintains all its original benefits.
“It’s a realistic-looking product, durable, easy to maintain and softer on your feet,” said Cannon.
No other type of flooring offers the style selection, ease of maintenance and value. It’s also the perfect product for getting the look of wood in areas prone to water splatter, such as bathrooms and laundry rooms. Finally – the look of wood without the worry!
We recently delivered a custom Whitekirk home located in The Summit at BaratHaven on Homesite # 20. The family used a great mix of products to get the look they wanted throughout their home, while still keeping their budget in mind. They made excellent choices on vinyl flooring in more private areas to maintain a cool vibe that’s easy to maintain at a great value.
The end result is so great – it’s hard to even tell that it’s sheet vinyl – we thought we’d share some photos. The plank flooring options are our favorite!
It’s almost impossible to tell it’s not wood! In the laundry room, they used a natural-toned, rustic plank style sheet vinyl that looks amazing. It’s a lighter shade than the hardwood throughout the main living areas. This creates a more light-filled laundry for a better workspace.
In the powder room, they chose a ceramic tile look. Unlike ceramic tile, the grout is a part of the pattern so it won’t get discolored or break loose. Everything we love about ceramic tile, without the hassle of sealing (and releasing) grout. It’s a win-win!
The homeowners originally planned for a ceramic tile in the bath, but later opted for a very similar look with light-colored ceramic tile style vinyl flooring. They still get a bright, contemporary look and, again, it’s hard to tell it’s not ceramic at first glance.
Another rustic plank hardwood-style sheet vinyl floor. This one with a rich antique bronze finish that helps transform this plain old secondary bath into a luxurious and beautiful space. Once again, it’s hard to tell the difference. This is the perfect application of this product. The bathroom still has the beautiful look of wood without the expense and worry of water on your wood floor.
The homeowners chose another vinyl floor that looks like ceramic in the upstairs Jack-and-Jill bath. Mixing the vinyl floor with nice cabinetry and upgraded hardware is another great way to get a fantastic, upscale look.
Keep vinyl in mind the next time you make flooring choices for your home. The high-quality, style-conscious selections available today will completely dispel any preconceived notions you had about vinyl flooring. It’s a cost-effective, visually-appealing option for the modern homeowner!
