One of the joys of working with our clients is the small nuances that make each project distinct. It is, after all, custom home building and thus each home is as unique as the family that will soon dwell inside. A recent St. Louis custom home we built for a local couple offered a special challenge that led to a great product discovery.
While the wife was driving many of the decisions regarding construction, the husband had some particular aspects of the home that he wanted to see incorporated. He does a majority of the cooking and clean-up in the kitchen. And he is also extremely environmentally conscious. He was determined to curb the amount of water used with a hands-free solution at the kitchen sink faucet. According to recent studies, washing dishes by hand actually wastes a great deal of water.
We researched a wide variety of products to provide a solution. Many of the sensor faucets are limited in terms of models and aesthetics. Some of them required batteries or other electrical power. Others were simply not user-friendly enough to meet the goal.
That was when we discovered the Euro Foot Activator product from Tapmaster. The name is a giveaway. The water is controlled from a discreet pedal that tucks into the cabinet.
The Tapmaster product was the perfect fit for a few reasons:
- Ease of construction and installation. The product is inexpensive, convenient, and can be installed onto any sink and faucet directly onto the water service line – that means no batteries.
- Environmentally- and user-friendly. The water can easily be turned on and off while washing dishes. And this particular model can be locked in the “on” position if need be.
- Extremely sanitary. After handling items such as raw meat, the user can turn on the water with a foot and wash hands without touching the faucet.
- Product durability. Even in areas with high mineralization, the Tapmaster remains dependable. Its reliability is based upon its design that is free of o-rings and sliding seals.
The biggest reason that we at DH Custom Homes love it is, of course, because we know it made the homeowners happier and more comfortable in their dream home. That’s what custom home building is all about.
