We’re back this week with another update on the amazing custom home features in a Kirkwood residence by DH Custom Homes! Did you catch last week’s post about the lovely blue porch ceiling?
This lovely Homewood residence includes a spacious rear porch for gracious outdoor living. Last year we showed you some progress photos of the construction. For the next couple weeks, we’ll highlight some features that truly make this porch a place to call home.
One of the best parts of our job is to work hand-in-hand with homeowners to add custom features in homes. These special touches are a true reflection of the individuals and their lifestyles. For this Kirkwood family, we knew we wanted to make the outdoor living areas a true retreat. To create a durable yet gorgeous flooring solution, we opted to use a polished concrete surface on the rear porch.
Achieving this look requires some additional steps, but we think you’ll agree – the finished look is worth the extra effort! The concrete is poured as usual. After ample time to dry and cure, DH used a sander and varying grit patterns to sand (and sand… and sand) the concrete floor. The result is an incredibly smooth and shiny surface. What a great way to make a concrete floor look polished and posh!
Concrete surfaces are all the rage in modern homes. From countertops to flooring, homeowners are turning to this traditional surface for modern applications.
Here’s one last look at the polished concrete porch:
We’ll be back next week with more details on that gorgeous porch ceiling and framing!
