DH Custom Homes offers cost-conscious solutions for the modern homeowner. There are many benefits to vinyl windows, but homeowners often prefer the look of wood windows with casing. They like the polished finish that speaks of quality and attention to detail. At DH Custom Homes, we’ve created a solution to give homeowners the best of both worlds – the look of wood windows and casing but without the extra cost.
How do we do it? It’s simpler than you might think! Just the clever use of casing and a little trim paint. Check out this example of windows in the hearth room of a recently-closed home in Dardenne Prairie.
The vinyl windows were installed like all vinyl windows – in a drywall opening. This can be seen in the photo below of the hearth room still under construction. The window, window sill & casing are all in place. Notice the drywall between the casing and the window. It’s still easy to spot since it matches the color of the rest of the walls, but we’ll change that soon.
In the next photos, it’s harder to see where wood casing ends and drywall begins. That’s the secret to this simple upgrade. We extended our standard wood window sill to accept window casing and then added casing around three sides of each window opening. These changes make such an impact on the overall look and feel of a room.
To complete the look, use the same trim paint on the casing and drywall opening back to the window. Voila! The polished look of wood windows adds an instantly-upgraded and luxurious feel to the room.
