Construction is now well underway at one of our newest luxury custom homes on Homewood Drive in Kirkwood, Missouri. This 1-1/2 story home was uniquely designed for the homeowners. It is being built on a home site previously owned by the homeowners who opted to tear down their smaller ranch home to build a new custom home. Read more about the demo here. We’re back this month to bring you an update as we move forward with construction!
DH began digging the basement on Tuesday, May 29. You can see a glimpse of the future home design in the sign below or see it on our blog here.
We started pouring the foundation on Wednesday, June 6. After pouring the foundation, we let it cure for about a week or so.
In the meantime, we started drilling the wells for the geothermal system, an energy-efficient, closed-loop heating and cooling system in which fluid circulates through pipes in the ground. The fluid uses the constant temperature in the ground to keep the home cool or warm. In Missouri, the ground temperature is constant at about 55 degrees year-round. Wells can be dug horizontally or vertically. Vertical wells worked best on this Kirkwood homesite – two at 150’ and four at 200’. Wideman Well Drilling Inc. is doing the geothermal system for this job.
Today we will backfill the foundation and then start framing early next week. Stay tuned!
This is an exciting project with lots of custom features. Check back often on our blog and follow us on Facebook and Twitter for the latest updates!
