You might recognize this home as it has been featured on our blog many times in the past. Four Homewood Lane is a house we are extremely proud of and feel honored to have received recognition by The City of Kirkwood Landmarks Commission and Architectural Review Board as one of this year’s Kirkwood Landmarks “Favorite Buildings Awards” in the category of “Infill of Merit.” The City of Kirkwoodholds this award every year in observation of National Preservation Month. This year, the Favorite Building Awards was held on Wednesday, May 14th, 2014 at the Kirkwood Train Station.
Houses are recommended for this award by Kirkwood residents, the Landmarks Commission members and by the Architectural Review board. The members of the Landmarks Commission and Architectural review board then drive by the properties, narrowing them down and finally choosing the ultimate winners.
This home, owned by Edmund and Joyce Hennessy, seamlessly blends its new style, scale and size into the existing neighborhood. This was a fun project for us and a great opportunity to build a home that blends with the neighborhood’s existing traditional Kirkwood architecture. The Hennessy family came to us with great ideas and inspiration, and together with Lauren Strutman Architects, we were able to put those thoughts into action.
We had a lovely time at the event; the mayor of Kirkwood presided over the event along with representatives of the Landmarks Commission and Architectural Review Board. All of the winners got up, including some homeowners, and shared interesting information about the projects. It was great to hear the stories behind each home project.
Our homeowner, Ed Hennessy, spoke first for our team detailing his experience with the project. Next, Denny went up to the podium and spoke on behalf of DH Custom Homes.
Thank you to The City of Kirkwood Landmarks Commission and Architectural Review Board for choosing DH as a favorite building, it means a lot to us to receive this recognition!
