Sipping cool drinks on the patio is a St. Louis summer tradition only second to watching Cardinals baseball. It’s the perfect time of year to spend your evenings and weekends enjoying the great outdoors.
To make the experience even more enjoyable, we, at DH Custom Homes, compiled a list of tips to creating a comfortable, pleasing and functional patio:
- Blue and green are the perfect colors for outdoor accessories because they do not compete with the natural beauty of the outdoor space.
- Use durable, mildew- resistant outdoor pillows, linens and furniture that can withstand the elements.
- Consider the use of your patio or porch and make sure your furniture matches those needs. Do you plan on entertaining guests or relaxing with family? A comfortable swinging day bed is great for an afternoon nap, but a wooden bench and rocking chairs allow for plenty of seating for guests.
- Wicker furniture is beautiful and a classic choice, but for the longevity of your furniture they do best in a covered patio. Synthetic wicker offers the wicker look and feel but is more durable and can be exposed to the elements.
- Ceiling fans are a practical and decorative addition to a porch or patio. With a fan you can enjoy a gorgeous summer evening with a refreshing breeze.
- Paint, stain or seal your wooden furniture to ensure the long lasting beauty. Try painting the floor a bright color for a unique look and feel to the area.
- Consider adding a patio skylight to provide more sunlight on those cloudy days.
- Hanging plants are a great way to add color to the space without taking up a bunch of space.
