We’re in the hunt for 11 in ’11 and there’s nothing like a delicious signature cocktail to add to the festivities when hosting your Cardinals World Series watch party. It’s yummy; it’s easy to serve; and, most importantly, it’s red.
It’s The CardinalCane. There are a lot of hurricane cocktail recipes out there, but this one never fails. Fresh-squeezed juices make all the difference. The good news is that the juices, along with the homemade simple syrup, can be done ahead of time and chilled
A non-alcoholic version is just as good. Follow the directions and simply omit the rums and triple sec.
Here’s the recipe:
CardinalCane (aka Hurricane) | Serves 5
- 1-1/2 cups pineapple juice
- 1 cup fresh-squeezed orange juice
- 1 cup pomegranate juice (filtered, not cloudy)
- 1/2 cup grenadine
- 1/2 cup simple syrup (see recipe below)
- 1/4 cup fresh-squeezed lemon juice
- 1/4 cup fresh-squeezed lime juice
- 1-1/2 cups light rum
- 1/4 cup triple sec
- 1/2 cup dark rum
- Slice orange (garnish)
- Slice lemon (garnish)
- Maraschino cherry (garnish)
In a large pitcher combine the pineapple juice, orange juice, pomegranate juice, grenadine, simple syrup, lemon juice and lime juice. Stir well to combine.
Add the light rum, triple sec and dark rum and stir well.
Serve in 16-ouce glasses* over lots of ice and garnish each glass with 1 orange slice, 1 lemon slice and 1 maraschino cherry.
*If you don’t have hurricane glasses, get creative and use something you have. Wine glasses or pint glasses work just as well.
Simple Syrup – makes about 1 cup
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
Bring sugar and water to a boil in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring, until sugar dissolves. Let cool completely. Store in the refrigerator in a well-sealed bottle or jar.
Please drink responsibly. Go Cards!!!
