DH Custom Homes is pleased to congratulate our colleagues, Mitchell Wall Architecture and Design, on their first place honor in the 2011 St. Louis At Home Magazine Architect & Designer Awards. And we are even more pleased to note that the honor came for a DH Custom Home design, the Oak.
We worked with Mitchell Wall Architecture and Design to design five homes for our portfolio, challenging them to design a 3,400 square-foot single-story home to complement the surrounding environment which included a protected riparian corridor, lush native landscaping and winding weathered-concrete walking paths.
The winning version of the Oak home design offers three bedrooms and 2-3/4 baths in approximately 3,385 square feet and features a first floor guest suite/library option and outdoor living area.
The open floor plan takes advantage of the expansive windows and views to the surrounding landscape. The gathering room flows into the breakfast room and central kitchen, the heart of the home. French doors in the breakfast room, gathering room and master bedroom sitting room offer access to the outdoor living area with fireplace.
One of our signature family foyers offers a buffer area between the garage and main living area of the home with close access from the kitchen. It features a dog shower, family cubbies and center island work station for gift-wrapping, homework, hobbies, etc. It also offers direct access to a large laundry room and the outdoors with a side porch entry.
A private first floor guest suite offers a second master suite on the main floor for in-laws, grown children or guests with luxurious bath, walk-in closet and juice bar. A grand stair hall unifies the home with access to the finished lower level with two bedrooms, family room, wet bar and more outdoor living with a screened-in porch and meditation garden.
