DESIGN TREND: Vintage Wallpaper

Close your eyes and try to remember that shiny floral wallpaper that was in your grandmother’s kitchen. On weekend mornings when you ate pancakes, your eyes would wander around the walls and the depth of the textures would become even more pronounced. Well. That look is back, but with some modern sensibility. According to several local interior designers retro wallpaper with patterns, large or small, and even faux finish prints are experiencing a revival.

Creative Pumpkin Carving Tips & Tricks

Spring 2013 Paint Colors: Renewal and Zen

Spring and summer seasons offer a natural time of renewal. There is energy in the air. The buds on the trees and new life outside can inspire you to refresh and renovate the inside of your home. It is the time when most people are pulling back the drapes, re-arranging furniture, finally doing that remodeling project and adding new color.

Unlikely Inspiration Leads to Old Fashioned Elliptical Archways

There is no end to what can be used as inspiration for interior design at DH Custom Homes. For our Kirkwood custom home project one of the biggest pieces of design inspiration came from an unlikely place – the kitchen hood.

As you can see in the below photo, the symmetry of the kitchen makes the hood, which features an elliptical arch shape, the central focal point of the room.

Dreaming of Spring Cleaning – Laundry Rooms to Inspire

The recent bout of warm St. Louis weather had us dreaming of spring. Beyond the wet showers and blooming flowers, what else comes to mind? Spring cleaning of course! For most, cleaning is a dreaded chore. We’d rather be enjoying our hobbies and time with family than dusting the blinds or washing clothes, but those tasks simply cannot be ignored.

Laundry rooms have undergone a design overhaul in recent years. Once hidden in a closet, they are now thriving spaces with clever storage and creative design. If you’re sketching out your dream home or remodeling your current home, DH Custom Homes has a Pinterest Board to inspire!

It’s the Little Details that MAKE it Perfect

At DH Custom Homes, we believe it’s the little details that make a space perfect. From the finishing touches while building a custom home to the accessories and furnishings that fill the rooms, we put careful thought and consideration into each decision.

Both Denny and I love to furnish our homes with vintage family furniture. These timeless pieces bring such history and rich, classic lines to our spaces. In my dining room, I have my Great-Grandma Emily’s dining room table and hutch from the 1920’s. Denny uses the French provincial dining room set from our Grandma.
