The DH Way

Twice as Nice, Revisited: Completed Custom Home on Wild Horse Creek Road

To give you a bit of background on the family, they are empty nesters who wanted a ranch plan perfect for just the two of them. They travel a lot, and wanted a house that fit their lifestyle. They called us with a design challenge we happily embraced, which was to design a totally unique smaller, but nice home that included only the spaces they needed and had used in the previous home they built with us.

To Build or to Renovate? That is the Question.

We meet many of our clients when they are in the initial phase of purchasing an older house. They come to us with the question "do we build a new home, or renovate what we have?"  To be honest, this isn’t always an easy question to answer.  As we work with them through the process, they all come to different conclusions for their own reasons.

Twice as Nice: A Repeat DH Client

We recently had previous clients contact us to build their second custom home with DH Custom Homes. We are honored and thrilled to be working with them again! They have challenged us to be creative, think outside of the box and create a truly terrific custom home. We are still in the early phases of construction but so far this home has been a great example of how a luxury, unique custom home can be designed from the imagination and needs of a homeowner in a matter of weeks and at an affordable price.

How We Live Now? Staircase and Entryway Trend

One trend we’ve noticed over the past couple months are elaborate and detailed staircases and entryways! Whether you have a stairway in the entry of your home, or one located in the center of it, your entryway can be an eye-catching centerpiece for your home.

Size Doesn’t Matter – Part One

Bigger is not always better. At least that is what you will see with a new custom project we kicked off recently. We were excited to get started on a home theater project for a Chesterfield family. One because home theaters are fun projects for us. And, two, because this one came with a bit of a challenge. We had to design the theater into the space where homeowners desired – a small unfinished area off of their finished lower level.

What I Learned from my First Job

I always tell people that I’ve never had a bad job. And I really do mean that. I have had bad days, but I have always enjoyed what I was doing. My love for work started when I was only six years old.

Dennis Hayden Featured in SBM

We would like to thank the St. Louis Small Business Monthly for taking a few moments to get to know more about Dennis Hayden and the Hayden family with their January Time with the Boss column. Since our roots run deep in the St. Louis area, we were thrilled at the opportunity to give back to the local business community.

Better Backyard Vision

Unless you are a professional, it is sometimes difficult to visualize and understand the value of a homesite to build a new home.  If the lot features something a little different in terms of topography, shape or size, it can be even more challenging to envision how intimate and unique your yard could be. Many homesites that you might pass up by at first glance could be perfect for you and your family with a little planning.

The Big Winner

During September and October, we held a contest – anyone who liked our Facebook page or signed up for our newsletter was eligible to win an iPad. And last week, we got a chance to catch up with our contest winner: Candy Ingrassia Citrin, an agent with Coldwell Banker Gundaker.

New Custom Home, Vintage Design

In our business, there are two days that are always exciting: the day we break ground and the day we hand over the keys to a new custom home. Just recently, we were able to experience the latter with a family in Kirkwood. If you have kept up with our blog over the past months, then you have been seeing the updates as they occurred. Now it is complete! We wanted to take a second to review and show off the final home, which is full of custom details and special features one doesn’t see every day in a new custom home.
